August, 7 Days in Albania<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So underrated, yet so full of hidden beauty \u2013 surprising, diverse, and unexpectedly stunning. While Albania still has room to grow when it comes to customer service etiquette, it certainly doesn\u2019t lack in stylish, beautiful, and delicious places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A destination that\u2019s budget-friendly yet offers priceless beauty \u2013 from majestic mountains to serene lakes and sun-kissed beaches. A land rich in history, with charming towns and villages, vibrant beach bars and party spots, breathtaking sunsets, and a cuisine that blends the flavors of many cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature doesn\u2019t ask for attention \u2013 it simply takes your breath away<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Bovilla lake<\/strong> – only 45 minutes from Tirana, the road to Bovilla Lake is slow and a bit challenging, but absolutely worth the effort. This mountain lake stuns with its turquoise waters and breathtaking, colorful landscapes that feel almost surreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the grilled cheese at the small caf\u00e9 nearby? Hands down the best I had in all of Albania \u2013 a flavor that will stay with me forever!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Komani Lake & Shala River<\/strong> – where crystal-clear waters meet steep mountain cliffs and untouched serenity, these two destinations are an absolute must when visiting Albania. Often called \u201cthe Thailand of Albania\u201d, this region impresses with its dramatic and exotic scenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Komani Lake winds through narrow mountain canyons, while the Shala River dazzles with turquoise water, lush green hills, and charming wooden bridges. Yes, the water is ice-cold, but on a hot summer day, there\u2019s nothing more refreshing than a dip in this natural paradise!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boat trip along the Albanian Riviera<\/strong> – a boat trip that unveils the beauty of the coastline and the ever-changing shades of the Ionian Sea. We set off from Himara, which in my opinion offers the most stunning coastal views and access to the most secluded beaches in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights? Grama Bay<\/strong> \u2013 to me, the most beautiful beach in all of Albania<\/strong>. Crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and a sense of untouched paradise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highly recommended: check out the tours offered by [Exploring Himara Boat Trips] \u2013 a fantastic way to discover hidden gems only accessible by sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lekuresi Castle<\/strong> – from the ruins of this historic fortress, you\u2019ll enjoy a panoramic view over Saranda and the surrounding coastline. It\u2019s especially magical at sunset, when the sky turns golden and the sea glows below \u2013 a perfect spot to end the day with a view to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not just where you go, it\u2019s where you stay<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Epidamn White Sensation<\/strong> – the Durres region is a popular destination for beach holidays and hotel stays, which often means it\u2019s bustling with people. But Epidamn White Sensation proved to be a peaceful exception to the usual beachside buzz.
A stylish, design-forward hotel where every detail feels thoughtfully curated \u2013 and the sunsets from the room terrace? Absolutely magical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zoe Hora<\/strong> – this charming hotel offers an authentic, cozy, and romantic atmosphere in a quiet town.
It also features a restaurant and cocktail bar, perfect for enjoying dinner while watching the sunset. They even offer yoga sessions, which sadly weren\u2019t available during my stay \u2013 but it\u2019s definitely something I\u2019d love to experience next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poda Beach Bar and Restaurant<\/strong> – a popular beach bar and restaurant in the Durres region, modern, trendy and Instagram-worthy. This isn\u2019t the place for peace and quiet, but if you’re into beach parties and vibrant energy, it\u2019s a great spot to soak up the sun and the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lost Sarand\u00eb <\/strong>– a design-forward beach bar and restaurant with a fantastic sunbathing area. While the service wasn\u2019t the most pleasant, the daytime and evening beach party vibes make it worth a visit if you’re looking for a lively atmosphere by the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Principote <\/strong>– a loud but beautifully curated beach club, perfect for those who love a mix of daytime lounging and nighttime partying. Spend the day relaxing on sunbeds, and stay for the true taste of Albanian nightlife after dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pema e That\u00eb <\/strong>– located just outside Ksamil, this beach is quieter and less crowded, offering a more relaxing and enjoyable experience. With sunbeds and crystal-clear water, it truly feels like a slice of the Maldives in Albania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My Tip – the most beautiful beaches stretch from Ksamil to Radhim\u00eb \u2013 perfect if you’re chasing crystal-clear waters and scenic coastlines. If that\u2019s your goal, skip Durres, as it doesn\u2019t offer the same level of beach beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comfort food, Albanian style \u2013 warm, rich, and unforgettable<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Albanian cuisine is a diverse and authentic blend of Ottoman, Greek, Italian, and local traditions. Every meal feels like a journey through cultures, with fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and heartwarming hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aqua Lounge Bar \u2013 Restaurant<\/strong>, Durres<\/strong> – a perfect mix of delicious food, creative cocktails, stylish design, and a great atmosphere. Ideal for a relaxed evening by the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bovilla Restaurant<\/strong> – a simpler, more rustic spot with incredible views \u2013 and the grilled cheese is an absolute must-try! Tasty, unpretentious, and satisfying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ftea Fish Taverna, Ksamil<\/strong> – a fantastic place for seafood lovers \u2013 fresh, flavorful, and full of local charm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poda Restaurant, Ksamil<\/strong> – thoughtfully crafted dishes with a creative twist. Delicious food and a beautiful sunset setting make it a perfect spot for a memorable dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving in Albania \u2013 A Scenic Adventure on Four Wheels<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With a rental car, you can safely explore all of Albania. Most main roads are in good condition, but it\u2019s worth noting that in rural areas or mountainous regions, roads can be very rough, and at times your driving speed may feel more like walking pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the journey can be challenging in places, but it\u2019s absolutely doable \u2013 and renting a car is one of the best ways to experience as much of Albania as possible at your own pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Places I Didn\u2019t Get to Visit \u2013 But Saved for My Next Albanian Adventure<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Theth<\/strong> \u2013 a place to disappear into the Albanian Alps, hike through breathtaking landscapes, and find peace where mountains touch the sky and waterfalls offer a refreshing escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Berat<\/strong> \u2013 the city of a thousand windows, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where history, authenticity, and both Christian and Islamic cultures meet in harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Blue Eye<\/strong> \u2013 one of Albania\u2019s most mystical natural wonders, a spring with crystal-clear, deep blue water that seems to come from another world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albania is full of hidden corners, from mountain trails and deep canyons to untouched rivers and charming towns. It\u2019s a country I know I\u2019ll return to \u2013 because seven days simply aren\u2019t enough to truly experience all the beauty and diversity it has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
